As part of HBHD’s ongoing operations at the former Freshwater Tissue plant, OurEvolution engineers completed an infrared survey of the existing 65-kV switchyard in an effort to locate sulfur hexafluoride leaks. SF6 is used in the insulators in large electric distribution switchyards. In addition to being costly, these leaks have significant greenhouse gas implications so HBHD is determined to get them remedied as quickly as possible. The survey was able to pinpoint several large leaks in the switchyard’s Live Tank Breaker insulators. HBHD is currently in the process of repairing these areas.
